Virtual Economy – The Hero’s Journey PreVis and Prototyping

Previs and Prototyping:

For my project I chose to work on a backpack and a clasp.
Since I don’t know how to create 3D objects or have the time for it I ended up buying two full perm mesh items that I will be re-texturing.

I had some really vague ideas that I planned to go with when designing the textures for each of these items.
My idea for the Acorn is to either make it look unique but like an acorn or to give it a metallic look.
For the backpack I plan to use the same basic idea that the original texture had but to find a color scheme I like better and to make it look more like an old brown leather on the front and pockets.

I have worked less on the backpack. For now, I am putting base layers on the texture so that I have a good base and easy selection to start from. The colors were just randomly chosen so that I know which section is which.

For the backpack, I plan to used my step color: Cerulean #027DA0 and some shade of brown for a leathery look. I plan to just color it based on how I want in the moment and prefer not to really plan it out before I work on it.

It makes the work more fun when I get the chance to play around with the colors and where I want them instead of feeling like I am stuck with only one option in how to design the backpack.

I am debating on if I plan to just make a backpack for each area so that others can choose a backpack to help them on their own her’s journey that matches what they are going for.

My sketches were more just playing with textures in an attempt to find how I want to do it. I never actually draw out things before I do them since I have an idea how I want it done and would rather immediately start on the work.

For my Clasp my idea was to make it look kinda like an actual acorn but once I put the texture on the item I realized I would have to do it another way to get the look I want.

The colors on the Acorn didn’t come out as much as I wanted them too and I will have to add more shading to get it the way i want but the leaf turned out well.

Scavenger Hunt

I designed my headset to have a steampunk design since we are Neo Steampunk Pirates. I wanted to do a design that would be challenging and not just coloring something blue or using a special brush to create a texture.
I took the chance to challenge myself with something I hadn’t done before.

My keys to success are Accepting Failure and curiosity.

I chose these keys because of the way I typically do work.
I often am curious of how things are done but at the same time need to keep in mind that failure isn’t bad. It is a way to learn.

When creating my headset I took a ton of time trying to create the gears and metal parts. It took me a couple of days of just working on it to get something that resembled the inside of a steampunk looking machine while also keeping the colors brighter than I usually would. Just in case I didn’t want to use it I ended up making the texture on another PSD file.
