Achievement Awards Final

Achievement Awards Final

Before taking Media 196, I have never made a 3D item. The most I had done was texture some items in another class. I knew I would be trying something completely new to me if I took this class. I was told before the class that I could choose to texture two items instead of make them if I wanted to. It was really tempting to take this option since I knew for sure I liked doing just that. I attended the zoom sessions with the professor. Not for help really since the info was well laid out in the assignments but it was more so just because I could. I wanted to hear what others had to say and know what else was going on. Our first quest that really showed what we were going to be doing was our key quest. It showed just how easy 3D could be. It was here that I really decided I would try to make both items myself.

During the quests we were given, I found out that I enjoyed blender but blender didn’t like my computer. Every time I tried texturing something, it would crash. It got to the point where it was just a bit annoying with how often it was crashing. After all of the crashing from blender, I decided to use photoshop. It would just be easier to change how I would go about doing things. After a while, my photoshop started crashing as well. It was making it really hard to make my items and texture them. I just had to keep trying at that point though. I also ended up going with a premade scroll model to save time.

My key to success was placed beside my textures and blog in the garden. I chose to make the key look more like wood just because I thought it was interesting. As much as I love metal, gold isn’t one of my favorites but I decently prefer wood due to the unique patterns.

Step 9 – The Unforeseen Award

I thought that it would be fun to make a reflective scroll and added it to the treasure hoard at the beginning of the step.

I chose to get a model and just texture it for the scroll.

I figured that my scroll that I bought could also be used for my next class I will be taking. It will be useful to be able to sell art of them in my in-game shop.

The reason went with a design with dragons due to the fact that is is a treasure hoard. Every treasure hoard needs a dragon of some type. Plus, it’s fun drawing dragons so why not add it to make the texture a bit more interesting.

Gaming Treehouse

After my items were in world, I couldn’t get my wing textures to line up right. In the end, I couldn’t get it to work after hours of working with them. I went with a seamless texture after that which actually looked a little better after I got used to it.

My toy was placed in the gaming treehouse. The toy was created so that it would be more steampunky to fit the Hero’s journey while looking kinda like Navi from Zelda. I did this because many gamers know that little fairy creatures like that are usually there to guide the way or help the hero on their journey. It goes well too with Zelda the cat on the upper floor of the treehouse.

Visitors gift

My gift that I got to create was a top hat with goggles. I used some some of my visual vocab textures to make the hat. I tried to also use the colors of the gaming treehouse on it.

The reason for the hidden image on the inside was that I thought it would be nice to play off of things that games like D&D have with their holding enchantment. Who says you can’t put one on a hat? So, I called my hat “The Top Hat of Holding”. The idea was just that it was a magic hat that can store things but who says that rabbits and doves are the only things people store in hats?

Our presentation will be our final challenge in this quarter. I am not a fan of presenting but I think that it will be the easiest way to go about it. This class has helped me to see what I do and don’t like in 3D design. There are definitely some things that I will be using in the future like seamless textures and basic 3D extrusions in photoshop. I also plan to do more extensive 3D modeling once I figure out a way around the crashing issues.
