McKenzie graduated from Peninsula college with a Multimedia Communications
degree – Graphics degree in the spring of 2022. After having completed the
first degree, McKenzie learned that they only needed to complete MEDIA 206:
Database Driven Websites for their second degree. Since the goal was so close,
McKenzie signed up for the class.

Before starting class, they needed to secure funding for their final
quarter. McKenzie signed up for the Pell Grant and some scholarships.
Scholarships and the Pell grant cover most of it but not the extra class they
decided to take. McKenzie was going to take MEDIA 206 and also MEDIA 145:
Directing & Producing. They would need to pay for MEDIA 245 themselves
since financial aid doesn’t cover classes that are not needed.

During the previous quarter, McKenzie’s computer wouldn’t boot up properly.
It went to a black screen that said there was a media issue and a booting
sequence error. Even though they could troubleshoot some of it, McKenzie
couldn’t fix this with just troubleshooting alone.

McKenzie also would need to use the emergency grant to cover the cost of supplies
such as a better camera, lenses, books, lights, mics, and anything else they
would need for class.

Unsure of what else to do, McKenzie sent in a request for an emergency
grant. Now it was just a waiting game to see if they could get the funding
needed to cover everything needed.
