Immersive Engagement Final

The Steps in a Hero’s Journey

Step 1 – The Ordinary World before the Adventure Begins

This step refers to the hero’s normal life at the start of the story, before the adventure begins.

Step 2 – Call to Adventure

The hero is faced with something that makes them begin their adventure. This might be a problem or a challenge they need to overcome.

Step 3 – Refusal of the Call

The hero attempts to refuse the adventure because they are afraid.

Step 4 – Meeting with the Mentor

The hero encounters someone who can give them advice and ready them for the journey ahead.

Step 5 – Crossing the First Threshold into the Extraordinary World

The hero leaves their ordinary world for the first time and crosses the threshold into adventure.

Step 6 – Discovery of Superpowers and Challenges including Tests, Allies, and Enemies

The hero learns the rules of their new world. During this time, they endure tests of strength of will, meets friends, and comes face to face with foes.

Step 7 – Adaptation of Perspective and Approach

Setbacks occur, sometimes causing the hero to try a new approach or adopt new ideas.

Step 8 – The Ordeal Reveals Resources and Inner Strengths

The hero experiences a major hurdle or obstacle, such as a life or death crisis.

Step 9 – The Unforeseen Reward

After surviving death, the hero earns their reward or accomplishes their goal.

Step 10 – The Road Back and Metamorphosis

The hero begins their journey back to their ordinary life.

Step 11 – The Resurrection Hero Evaluation and Reflection

The hero faces a final test where everything is at stake and they must use everything they have learned.

Step 12 – Becoming the Mentor and Return with Education Elixir

The hero brings their knowledge or the “elixir” back to the ordinary world, where they apply it to help all who remain there.

How does my items in Step 5 connect with the other steps?

Step 5 is the step where the hero leaves the world they know and starts the adventure. But, before any adventure it is always good to get prepared and get into immerse yourself into the story.

I chose to make a cloak clasp since we were unable to find a good cloak. But, I chose this since any adventurer needs protection from the elements.

My second item is a backpack. I wanted a good traveling backpack that would be able to handle the rest of the journey with ease.

I chose a more fantasy style because we are heroes and what is more fun than a fantasy adventure where you are out to become a hero?

How is my work going?

For the most part everything has went according to plan from what I had set out to do in my previs for step 5 and the Gaming tree-house that is between Information Technology and Business & Management.

Since the quarter is shorter than it usually is I had less time to finish some parts but that doesn’t mean I can’t finish it later.

In total I did 13 backpack designs that were set out together in Step 5 so that when someone grabs my bag they get all of the colors for the steps.

These are the base colors for the other backpacks. I went with a couple different designs than the ones I had before and added a bit more shading to the bags. I actually really like how some of the bags turned out. Such as the 4th, 7th, and 10th ones in the photo below. I was trying to make each bag be unique compared to what they were before.

My backpack had to be sold so it is L$250. It is placed where I wanted it to be with the raccoons. The best part is that one of the raccoons walks over to it on occasion.

I have also finished with my acorn clasp. It isn’t perfect but it is better than my original design. It should be properly positioned and sized correctly so that it actually looks like a clasp for a cloak.

For the placement of my clasp I ended up placing the clasp on a table by an owl. This was so that people could easily find it while also getting it near an owl.

The next thing I was working on was the gaming treehouse. I haven’t been able to expand on it the way I wanted to but I still am going to get a screenshot for the screen.

It’s honestly really nice to see how it actually looks like a gaming treehouse and not a blank one like it did from the start.

I still have yet to get anything set up in my shop due to some issues with not being able to rezz items by my shop or in the sandbox. But, I had a galaxy cat jacket that I made.
I also have another backpack made up to sell as soon as I can rezz items properly.

The Curiosity and Accepting Failure keys are fitting this class well.

There is so much I want to do but might not get to or know how to do. I am curious on how everything works and is done. But, because there is so much that I look at and want to try I might not accomplish everything I want to. That is where Accepting Failure comes in. I just need to accept that I may not have the time for it, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t try again later. Plus, you can always learn from failure.
